10月 16, 2025, Le Grouin du Sud
The Grouin du Sud is a natural headland offering impressive views of the bay and the famous Klosterberg. Depending on the tide, the landscape alternates between vast mudflats and ocean views, making the place particularly charming.

A forgotten part of Mont Saint-Michel, this chapel on the northwest side of the island. At low tide you can easily walk towards this chapel that is not otherwise open to visitors, but is nevertheless beautifully situated on the rocks below the famous monastery.

Beautiful place. Because of the perfect view of Mont St Michel. You can see the rock beautifully in the middle of the water.

For me, walking around the island at low tide with a detour to the chapel was one of the highlights of the visit: far fewer tourists than on the mountain itself and views of the island that you don't see on the usual postcard motifs.

The chapel was probably built in the 12th century and was dedicated to Saint Aubert of Avranches. According to legend, the chapel was built on a rock that he had thrown there. At high tide, the rock can be completely submerged and is then like a small version of Mont Saint-Michel.

Direct view of the famous island on the other side of the bay. At low tide you can imagine walking there, but the distance is still considerable.

First tourist site in France outside the Paris region, Mont-Saint-Michel is famous for the rocky islet on which its abbey was built. The bay in which it sits is known for its tides, which are said to move as fast as a galloping horse. The setting offered by the site is simply magical. A place of pilgrimage since the 9th century and a stopover on the Santiago de Compostela route, the abbey is also a major religious place. In addition to the abbey church, the medieval town is also an architectural gem, with its courtyards, walkway and châtelet.

The - probably worldwide - most famous sanctuary dedicated to Archangel Michael is this French "Mont St. Michel" on a small, very impressive monastery island off Normandy, which is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its uniqueness. The name Michael / Michel (coming from the Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - in paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword or lance. Along with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel, Michael is one of the four Archangels who (according to human conception) hold the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the calendar of saints is September 29th.

Mont-Saint-Michel never ceases to amaze. There is so much to say about it: a mystical place with its "wonder" (the cloister at the summit of the mount) and the gilded statue of the Archangel Saint Michael slaying the dragon from the heights overlooking the bay. Mother Poulard and her famous omelet, along with the narrow streets, add an authentic dimension. The quicksands of the bay make it even more elusive. It is an ancient pilgrimage site that attracts crowds, but also a place that regains its tranquility once night falls.

A small ledge that is easily accessible on foot, from where you can enjoy a wonderful panorama over the entire bay. The long-distance hiking trail (old smuggler path) also leads along

Sensational. It's much more impressive than I expected. We were there at a time when the tide was low and the shadow of Mont St. Michel was very clearly visible in the sand. Very impressive. The earlier you get there, the fewer people there are.
