The Roche Bayart is a striking rock formation in the French Ardennes, closely linked to the legend of the Four Sons of Aymon. According to the medieval story, the magical horse Bayard, carrying the four brothers on his back, leaped over the rock, creating a cleft in the stone with a single hoofstroke. The rock is located near the monument to the Four Sons of Aymon and, together with the surrounding peaks, forms a symbolic tribute to these heroes of Carolingian epic. The area is accessible via a hiking trail that leads visitors past the rocks and through the forest, offering panoramic views of the Meuse Valley.

14km loop with 600m of elevation gain

In the middle of the Ardennes forest, the Vieilles Forges lake brings variety to the forest landscape. A nice stop during a mountain bike outing.

It's very beautiful... but the second half is a lot of climbing and scrambling, quite tough.

“La Longue Roche” is located at the top of rocky spurs overlooking the Meuse and the small town of Monthermé. The viewpoint from this site offers an absolutely breathtaking panorama of the meanders of the Meuse. It is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the region.

To reach the Dames de Meuse belvedere, you must continue a little over a km towards Anchamps, crossing two torrents, a little after the vertical of the dam on the Meuse.

It is not the Belvédère des Dames de Meuse which is located about 1km further on, along the electrified fence, almost above the dam. Here, there is a pleasant view of Laifour.

Lac des Vieilles Forges is surrounded by forests and meadows. You can enjoy views of the water and wildlife while circling the lake. The lake is also part of a hydroelectric system that pumps water to and from two reservoirs to generate electricity.
