Mount Caroux is the eastern end of the Espinouse Mountains, in the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park. It consists of a plateau culminating at 1,091 m altitude, and limited to the west by the Héric gorges, to the east by the Colombières gorges and to the south by the Orb valley.

Between the gorges (Gorges) d'Héric in the west and the Gorges de Colombières in the east, a very varied section of the GR7 long-distance hiking trail runs high above the valley of the Orb River.
