The marls shape the landscape into dunes of soft rock with arid slopes. True witnesses to the Lower Cretaceous period (approximately 135 million years ago), these Valanginian marls are mainly composed of limestone, sand, and clay, giving them a crumbly appearance when dry. Tinged with a grey or yellowish hue, they bear witness to a time when the ocean covered the Provençal Baronnies, which were then nothing more than a vast marine trench: the Vocontian Basin.

The Col de Geine is a very unknown pass. Actually a “dead end” for racing cyclists. The road behind the Col de Geine is actually no longer suitable for racing bikes. The 9 km driveway is all the more beautiful. A small street with lots of curves winds up to 1000 m above sea level. Already during the ascent you have a fantastic view of the north side of Mont Ventoux. Very worthwhile!
