The hike to the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière (a 3,751 m high mountain in the Graian Alps) is easy. The west and east of this part of the Alps form the watershed between the Rhône (Isère) and Po (Dora Baltea) rivers, which also forms the border between France and Italy. Climbing to the summit also offers a unique opportunity to see a glacier and two glacial lakes. If you're in the area, don't miss this breathtakingly scenic hike in the Vanoise National Park!

Grattaleu Lake is located just below a hill, behind the refuge. Overlooked by the Aiguille des Aimes and the Pointe du Chardonnet, the lake invites you to take a break before turning around to return to Tignes. Grattaleu Lake is one of the 130 high-altitude lakes in the Vanoise massif. Frozen in ice for nearly six months a year, only a few invertebrates live there.

Very pleasant scenery and circuit. No major difficulties and a 360° view at the summit.

Amazing views on mount blanc, lac d’ annecy and more beautiful landscape! 😍 Attention, only take the path across the ridge to the chalet de L’Alpettaz if you are a really experienced hiker and like to get some adrenaline. It is super narrow and partly really dangerous. After finishing the dangerous part there is high grass through which the hike continues.

The Refuge du Lac du Lou, located at 2,045 meters above sea level near the ski resorts of Les Menuires and Val Thorens, offers a warm welcome in both summer and winter. The 2024-2025 winter season will begin on December 7, 2024. The refuge has 33 beds in rooms for 4 to 8 people, all equipped with pillows and blankets; the use of a personal sleeping bag is mandatory. Half-board includes dinner, overnight stay and breakfast, with reservation required. The refuge is known for its quality cuisine, using organic and local products, and offers an ideal environment for those seeking a unique experience away from the daily routine.

This pretty refuge is located at an altitude of 2,417 metres, in the heart of the Vanoise park. It is easily accessible from the Col de la Platta car park. The refuge has a single large room, so the 14-bed dormitory is in the same place as the dining room. An intimate atmosphere awaits you! It is also possible to pitch a tent around it, but only by reservation.

Our plan was to climb the summit with our bikes on our shoulders. As there was still a lot of snow and some light climbing was required, we parked our bikes along the way. I recommend the Aiguille de la Grande Sassière for hikers but not for bikers, as the descent is partly doable but not worthwhile.
