The river in the first part of the trail, with its rocks, tempts climbing, but climbing is strongly discouraged. On the day we hiked there, the path was closed because a boy had fallen into the water and sadly died. You can also swim in the lake if you want, if the cold water doesn't put you off. I've been there three times now, and unfortunately, the glacier is receding.
