Beautiful hike, I was just expecting to see the lake but that is not the case, we go around it but not close!

Although the place is quite small, with its rocks, it almost feels like the Fontainebleau Forest. A rather unusual environment for Hainaut.

The small waterfalls of the Eau Blanche River are a hidden natural wonder in the region. These charming waterfalls are located in a picturesque and unspoilt setting, where the clear waters of the Eau Blanche meander over rocks and vegetation. The river flows through a wide, wooded landscape.

The Trou des Saracens is a karst cave formed several million years ago. Used since the Neolithic era, this site served as a refuge and habitat. The waters deposited stones containing iron ore, called “Sarrazin” by the local inhabitants, supplying the Virelles forges until the 18th century. Today, the cave is protected for its archaeological and ecological value, particularly for the hibernation of bats.

Via a short but tiring slope you reach a viewpoint on Lake Virelles, where you also have the Aquascope. Opposite the bench on the blue walking trail you can continue a few meters in the direction of the lake. There you have the best view, which is also marked on the map as a viewpoint.

The name 'Eau Blanche' (white water) comes from the blanchâtre color caused by the chalky mud of the Calestienne, a region with very calcareous soils.

The Eau Blanche is a special river in Belgium with a length of approximately 42.5 km. The river originates at an altitude of 250 meters in Seloignes, in the south of the province of Hainaut. It flows through the town of Chimay and then eastwards through the Calestienne, where it breaks through a narrow valley near Lompret to reach the Fagne depression at Aublain.
