Located right at the entrance to Valtellina and Valchiavenna, Pian di Spagna is a large plain that joins Lake Mezzola with Lake Como, creating a wetland of great naturalistic interest between the provinces of Sondrio, Lecco and How. The vegetal landscape is dominated by reed beds. There are also mixed broad-leaved forests and large agricultural areas used for pasture or corn plots. An ideal place for nesting many birds, Pian di Spagna offers an ideal setting for nature lovers who want to spend a peaceful day, also taking advantage of the proximity of important tourist locations.

The Acquafraggia waterfalls (or Acqua Fraggia) are located in Borgonuovo and the parts visible from the road are the most suggestive, but not the only ones. The Acquafraggia basin is located at the western entrance to the Val Bregaglia. The stream of the same name originates from Pizzo di Lago at 3,050 meters above sea level, in an Alpine watershed from which rivers descend and flow into the North Sea, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Descending towards the valley floor, the stream runs through two suspended valleys, both of glacial origin, one at an altitude of two thousand and the other at a thousand meters above sea level. During its course, the Acquafraggia stream forms a series of waterfalls. These, the ones further down, are the most suggestive thanks to their double jump. In fact, the name Acquafraggia comes from the Latin "aqua fracta", indicating a stream continuously interrupted by waterfalls.
