The Cerano forest nature reserve covers approximately 126 hectares. It is home to many small mammals such as badgers, foxes and rodents and there are over 60 species of birds including the warbler, goldfinch, chaffinch, blackcap and nightingale. Many paths start from here to explore both on foot and by bike.

The Menhir presents a number of noteworthy features. In fact, on the upper part you can immediately observe a 4 cm diameter hole, nicknamed "soul hole", according to some, used by ancient shamans to transmigrate the soul of the deceased during the performance of particular rituals. What makes the monolith even more fascinating and mysterious is its resemblance to the Menhir de Pierrefiche (note the almost assonance with Pietragrossa), a megalith located in the Loire, a region in the north of France, also equipped with a small hole placed on its top. Furthermore, close to the Pietragrossa Menhir, there is a certain quantity of stones, which according to the owner of the land, would have been used in the past to cover an ancient tomb of prehistoric origin.

the Bosco Cerano reserve is an extensive formation that develops along the sides of a natural gully. the protected area protects from the residual portion of a coastal forest characterized by the presence of Mediterranean maquis and holm oak formation. there is the presence of woods of Virgiliana oak and a large number of Arbore punto species. Thanks to the particular climate of the area, hygrophilous plants (field elm and black hornbeam) are widespread. in the past the vegetation was much thicker and more extensive, today it is greatly affected by the ever increasing anthropic pressure on the whole reserve.
