The Campolattaro Lake Oasis is one of the most important natural areas in Sannio, managed by the WWF and characterized by a large artificial lake surrounded by woods, pastures, and wetlands. It is an ideal habitat for wildlife observation: herons, night herons, birds of prey, and many migratory species find a resting place here during the transit seasons. The scenic viewpoints along the shore offer expansive views of the lake and the Tammaro hills.

The dam dates back to 1980 and gives rise to a 7km square lake. The waters of the basin are used for irrigation and drinking purposes.

The Tre Frati are three centuries-old beech trees found on the northern slopes of Monte Mutria, within the Guardiaregia-Campochiaro WWF Oasis. The estimated age is around 500 years and they are surrounded by a dense forest. To reach the Tre Frati there are several hiking trails that start from Fonte Colle Macchio or from Pietraroja.

Monte Mutria is the highest peak of the Guardiaregia-Campochiaro Regional Reserve, with its 1823 meters of altitude. Near the top is the chapel of Sant'Antonio, built in the 1990s and a destination for summer pilgrimages. The panorama extends over the great mountains of the Apennines, and on the clearest days you can even see the sea.

It is not a simple lake but an important oasis of a thousand hectares protected by the WWF created by the damming of the Tammaro river. Many species of birds can find refuge here.

WWF Oasis

With 1823m s.l.m. you can see the great Sasso, the Maiella, the lake of Matese, the mountain of Matese, and up to the sea if the weather is clear.

Since the 90s, a chapel has been built to sing to Mount Mutria. The chapel is also visible from the village of Cusano Mutri with a pair of binoculars. A pilgrimage is made to the chapel every year in the summer.
