Beautiful! Done in gravel, but it was better in MTB. Some passages are a bit excessive and I pushed the bike, mostly for fear of falling into the gully...

The gullies near Ciagnano are an unmissable natural wonder. These unique geological phenomena with deep gorges and clay formations offer an impressive sight.

The landscape is extremely suggestive and the descent is relatively easy, even if in the rain it can create dangerous furrows

The Farneto area ... is today best known for the cave that bears the same name: it was discovered in 1871 by Francesco Orsoni, who began the first, important archaeological research. In the 1960s Luigi Fantini, in a natural shelter created by a protruding layer, found some burials attributable to the Copper Age (the finds are exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Bologna). Shaken by quarry work, the entire outcrop and the cave remained inaccessible for years due to a landslide that blocked the entrance, until the implementation of a recovery and safety intervention that finally allowed its redevelopment and reopening to the public in 2008. The Grotta del Farneto is one of the most well-known and important prehistoric settlements in the Bolognese area. It can only be visited with a guided tour ( http://www.parks.it/parco.gessi.bolognesi/man.php ) In any case, it is worth a visit (even if it is closed ). The fresh air that comes out of it provides a bit of relief from the summer heat.

Epic and almost lunar landscapes. A few hundred meters from the "civilization". It can be reached from the educational farm “la Dulcamara” with a fast descent with several furrows and roots. At the end of the part immersed in the vegetation you reach the gully. Stop and enjoy the landscape. Going down the part of the gully you reach the lowest point of the path that crosses a stream. Keep left and walk along the lower part of the gully. A final climb will take you on the road to San Andrea

Gessi Bolognesi and Calanchi dell'Abbadessa Regional Park At the gates of Bologna, the Regional Park of Gessi Bolognesi protects a landscape of crystalline chalk outcrops and badlands. They are the most characteristic mineral expression, and which allows the survival of spontaneous nature oases just a few kilometers from the city. It is one of the most important and studied karst complexes in Europe, that of the Bolognese gypsum is an area of great beauty, rich in spectacular erosive forms and cavities, where plant and animal species of considerable scientific interest find refuge. The Idice stream crosses it, marking the eastern sector of the park, where the gentle rolling hills of Ozzano dell'Emilia are interrupted by the tormented ridges of the Abbadessa gullies. Five thousand hectares of protected area to protect landscape, naturalistic and historical values of the highest order, above and below the ground level. The appearance of the vegetation is mosaic: from the arid and sunny outcrops to the broad-leaved woods typical of the Apennine mountains. The complex system of caves is famous, explored in the past by scholars and enthusiasts, which has returned many fossils collected at the Donini Archaeological Museum. The Spipola cave is the only one that can be visited accompanied by specialized personnel, also accessible to schoolchildren, and which allows you to observe a suggestive and peculiar world, in the past endangered by the extraction of the so-called selenite, a material widely used in the urban buildings of Bologna up to the 19th century. Scaly clays, on the other hand, form the gully landscape typical of the easternmost part of the area, with rich spring blooms of Sulla and Ginestra.
