The oldest fountain in Europe... until proven otherwise. Given its fragility (soft Lecce stone and carparo) it is a shame that it is always attacked by atmospheric agents.

The monolith was found by Carlo Piccinni in 1962 inside the property of the same name. Currently the Menhir is protected by a flowerbed in a privately owned villa.

The menhir was found by Felice Moro at the end of the 70s. It stands out from all the others due to its vaguely anthropomorphic shape. The monolith is also very reminiscent of the menhirs present in Scotland.

Rediscovered in the 1960s lying on the ground, it was repositioned upright in the 1970s, at the direction of the Taranto Cultural Heritage Office, by the landowner. Today, meticulously maintained on private property, it is visited by school groups and interested groups. While it isn't directly visible from the road, the owners of the residence were very helpful and kind in granting me access to the property, telling me a few anecdotes, and allowing me to approach the menhir.

The Greco Roman Fountain of Gallipoli is considered the oldest fountain in Italy. There are doubts about its origins, if dating back to the III BC. or in the Renaissance age. Today it is at the Ponte Antico and very ruined. 5 m high, the coats of arms of Gallipoli, Charles III Bourbon and Philip II are represented on it. There are three mythological scenes, the metamorphoses in sources of Dirce, Salmace and Biblide.
