Everything is reminiscent of Marco Pantani

The Sassi saddle is located at an altitude of 1,150 metres. This is the pass that separates Sasso di Simone and Mount Simoncello, the latter reachable with a detour that starts right from here.

Trabocchino crossroads

Renamed "Passo Marco Pantani" in March 2023, the climb of Mount Carpegna was the Pirate's famous training ground. Pantani used to say, and it's a phrase you'll read many times on the asphalt: "Carpegna is enough for me." Going up from the town of the same name, you will encounter writings, statues and many other memories of Pantani. It is also a historic climb for the Giro d'Italia: in 1973 Eddy Merckx won here.

We are located at the Trabocchino Pass, at an altitude of 1300 metres. This pass is located in a picturesque depression, offering an ideal panoramic point from which to admire Carpegna and the Mutino valley. In this area several paths intersect, including CAI paths 101, 102 and 104.

The Trabocchino is one of the numerous carvings that allow access to the summit plateau of Mount Carpegna; it is crossed by the ancient route that connects the town of Carpegna to the hermitage of Madonna del Faggio. On the southern side the slope descends steeply, revealing spectacular banks of stratified rock.
