The bear holds a special status in Finnish culture. When the bear was killed, the bones were buried at the foot of the tree and the skull was hung in the tree.

The climb is worth it. From the large Riisitunturi summit, you have an impressive view of the varied forested hill and fell landscape from 465 meters.

Nice hiking destination. For me it was an easy walk to reach here, but those with less experience may find the route more demanding.

Especially fantastic with snow (January, February)! It's best to explore off the beaten track with snowshoes or skis. 🎿

A spruce that never grows upwards, only horizontally. There is a sign near by with some info about the tree and its history.

Stunning views as well as a pretty easy trip up and down the hill.

Instead of going around the hill, it can also be walked directly. Much less busy than on the main route. The nearby large stones are great for a view or a rest.

In winter the spruce trees that cover many of Riisitunturi National Park's hillsides are clad with a thick coating of condensed frost, creating a photogenic white forest.
