Superb hike to climb to the Chalet du Soldat by Jaun. Magnificent arrival at the foot of the Gastlosen, a great climbing spot. The welcome is special but very friendly. If you follow the instructions, everything will go smoothly. The evening meal and breakfast are hearty and you may be treated to a small Alphorn concert. No shower. Also note: the water up there is not drinkable. You can buy bottled water but we preferred to take aquatab to purify the tap water. The objective is to limit plastic consumption. We had an 8-person dormitory (for 7). There is no space to hang things up, so bring a cord.

The shortest ascent is via the La Berra cable car from La Roche. From the mountain station it is less than 90 meters in altitude to the summit with the pyramid, which is one of Switzerland's triangulation points (fixed points for measuring Switzerland). These 80 or so pyramids were built between 1884 and 1970. About 60 of them still exist today. They are also shown on the 25, 50 and 100,000 scale maps, with a triangle and a dot in the middle. The Berra is also easily accessible from the Grau car park (accessible only in summer from Le Mouret) or from the Plasselbschlund. We took the funicular and cable car to the top, and you are greater with an amazing view. It is an easy climb to the top of Le Moleson, and well worth the detour. The first part of the hike down is steep, with some loose rubble,. The route does get easier and then you are treated to lovely fresh smells whilst walking through the trees and the flowers are colourful.

Absolutely worth seeing little town, I would stay here to be able to enjoy it without too many tourists!

The view from the top of the Moléson on a clear day is truly incredible. You can admire the Gruyère Pre-Alps, the Vaudois, Savoyard and Bernese Alps. Among the emblematic summits, the Becca d'Audon or Oldenhorn, the Diablerets, the Dent de Morcles, the Tour d'Aï and the Tour des Mayens, the Dents du Midi... In addition, the restaurant is very well run with an efficient and motivated staff, but sometimes a little stressed (and that's normal!) in the face of the crowds. The place to visit in the Friborg Prealps!
