beautiful but overcrowded beach

From here you have a privileged view of Isola Bella, a rocky islet at the foot of Taormina connected to the mainland by a thin strip of sand. A ticket is required to visit. Beautiful, but depending on the time of day, it can get very crowded. It's best to come in the morning. The cool water of the Alcantara is a relief on hot days 😃

Still closed in May 2025. They are planning to install toilets and infrastructure. We can... Do it the Sicilian way though... ;)

The rocky pyramid of Rocca di Novara ("Matterhorn of Sicily") seems inaccessible...as a landmark, it can even be seen from Mount Etna! This rocky promontory has a well-maintained trail (adequately marked with red dots), making it never too difficult to climb. (Caution: Surefootedness, a head for heights, and good weather are essential!!) From the summit plateau (large metal cross with the silhouette of Christ), there is a magnificent view of the coast, the mountain villages in the hinterland of Milazzo, and the Peloritani Mountains. The starting point is a picnic area on the SS185 (which will likely be impassable from the south for some time to come due to a landslide). There are a few parking spaces along the roadside; for off-road vehicles, you can also drive up to the first bend of the picnic area. A fantastic mountain experience - and afterwards, head to the café in Novara d. Sicily -> Bar S. Niecola!

This is really a really beautiful spot!!

"Hike" is definitely an exaggeration. It is a walking path and at the same time worth seeing. Look for the Communal Entrance if you do not want to take guided tours etc. When buying the entrance ticket, make sure that you buy at least the orange route (6€). The €2 entrance ticket only allows you to access the beach via the stairs. If you are too lazy to walk or have difficulty walking, you can buy a ticket for the elevator to the river. But then you have to take the elevator and are not allowed to use the stairs, even though the price for the elevator is many times higher.
