The Chalcedony Trail (PR1 TBR – Trilho da Cidade da Calcedonia) is one of the most iconic routes in Peneda-Gerês National Park, located in Covide (Braga), within the municipality of Terras de Bouro. It leads to the ruins of the City of Chalcedony, an ancient pre-Roman hill fort high in the mountains. It offers panoramic views over the Homem River valley and the Gerês mountains. The trail passes through native forests, rocky areas, and natural viewpoints.

The hiking trails are well signposted and well-maintained, but good footwear is still important.

Warning: This is an extremely dangerous location, with a significant risk of falling. Due to erosion, the rocks are extremely smooth, making them slippery even in dry weather.

Fascinating landscape. The entire complex is beautifully designed, and everything is connected by paths between the stones (which look like oversized pebbles). The entire area is easily accessible by cable car and offers excellent dining options. There are restaurants and cafés to suit every taste. But there are also plenty of benches and tables among the stones for enjoying your own picnic.

The artificial grotto was designed by the Swiss-Portuguese architect Ernesto Korrodi at the beginning of the 20th century and features stone walls, trickling water, stalactite-like dripstones, and a small waterfall. The complex is a photo opportunity par excellence. It is located on a hill next to the church, surrounded by numerous beautiful, well-tended flowerbeds. At the top, an octagonal wooden pavilion awaits, offering a magnificent view of the entire area. Like the railings of the winding access paths, the beautiful little hut is constructed of woven wooden branches.
