The watermill was purchased in the 1990s and renovated as a private residence. I didn't see the mill wheel there, but the waterfall and fish ladder are still worth a quick stop. From here, you can cycle or walk a bit up the Düte past the lovely, shady mill pond.

The Oesede monastery owned extensive land in its immediate surroundings. It also had extensive rights to both flowing and standing waters. This included the particularly important right to operate mills.

The original location of the watermill may even predate the monastery, i.e. before the monastery was founded in 1170.

Just before its mouth, the Warmenau plunges about 1 meter over a few rocks ;-) Not quite comparable to the Rhine Falls, but nice to see. A dirt track runs along the right bank of the Warmenau almost to the spot.
