They and trucks don't slow down and constantly brush past you. Not to mention the wind and the blast from passing trucks that almost knock you over, even on foot! Because yes, I got off my bike to walk (the sidewalk was well separated from the rest of the road this time) after thinking I was going to die several times in less than a minute. So, avoid it by bike, but you can use it by getting off your bike and using the pedestrian crossing. Perhaps feasible on days or times when there's less traffic?
