Lovely view of the lake, especially at sunset.

Amazing place. I was able to check out the shop and cafe, and have a peak at the garden, whetting my appetite to make it a day's destination some time.

Stourhead opened in the 1740s as a landscape garden and living work of art. At its centre is a lake surrounded by mythical temples, grottos and wonderful specimen trees. It's now managed by the National Trust and paid entry other than the footpaths which run across the estate.

A beautiful National Trust garden with a great circular walk around the lake.

Camped here for two nights. Owners were pleasant and welcoming and talked me through things. Toilets and showers were clean. Nice lake with Canada geese and Coots in residence. very nicely laid out English garden with a lake, a distinctive bridge and some older buildings. When we visited, the rhododendrons were in full bloom - simply gorgeous.

This exceptionally grand estate sits atop the source of the River Stour and is part-owned by the National Trust. Built in the 1700s, the Grade I-listed mansion is just a small section of this sprawling estate. The village of Stourton is part of the Stourhead estate and includes a beautiful church, a pub and surrounding farmland. The gardens are perhaps the biggest draw and walking around the (artificially created) lakes is a lovely experience throughout the year. Designed to give the impression of a journey through parts of Greek mythology, you’ll find a Palladian bridge, a Pantheon and a Temple of Apollo. There’s no bad time of year to visit Stourhead and different plants and trees come into their own in different seasons. If you visit in spring, the snowdrops are outstanding.

What a gorgeous area. A lovely descent down through stourton, the National Trust house, pub and houses and gardens. Under a grotto style bridge and views ahoy!

Built in from 1721 - 24, Stourhead is a wonderful estate at the source of the River Stour. The Stourton family owned the estate for 500 years until they sold it to the Hoare family, who demolished and built a new house. Today you can visit the wonderful lake and house, which is part-owned by the National Trust. The gardens are particularly stunning in autumn, when the trees hugging the river turn crimson and gold. Beautiful part of the stourhead estate

Great National Trust place to stop and refuel, hot drink are around £2.50 and plenty of food to choose from. Grounds past cafe are free the members or around £19 for adults.

Already at the entrance to the garden a great view, which is not the only one.
