Roccatagliata has an ancient history, which begins in pre-Roman times, when the area was certainly inhabited by Ligurians. After the Roman period, Roccatagliata was occupied by the Lombards. During the Middle Ages it was a fiefdom of the Fieschi family. The construction of a castle dates back to this period, of which the ruins remain on the hill above the village (today the area is an archaeological park).
