The beautiful crescent-shaped town of Portofino stretches along the Ligurian coast of the Italian Riviera and is one of Italy's most beautiful, exclusive and famous seaside destinations. Roccatagliata has an ancient history, which begins in pre-Roman times, when the area was certainly inhabited by Ligurians. After the Roman period, Roccatagliata was occupied by the Lombards. During the Middle Ages it was a fiefdom of the Fieschi family. The construction of a castle dates back to this period, of which the ruins remain on the hill above the village (today the area is an archaeological park). The importance of Roccatagliata was linked to the fact that it was located on a route very frequented by caravans of merchants who headed from the coast towards the Po Valley. Every year on the day of San Lorenzo a medieval festival takes place, in which the inhabitants of the village dress in period clothing to recall the period in which Roccatagliata was a village of great importance.
