The Chutzen marks the highest point on the eleven-kilometer-long Belpberg ridge between the Aare and Gürbe valleys. “Aareböötler” know this place. The so-called “Uttiger threshold” below this railway bridge is the most sensitive place between Thun and Bern. The Aaare is easily passable here on foot or by bike.

The Aare is a dreamlike river. Crystal blue water and pleasantly cool temperatures. It is hardly surprising that swimming in the Aare is a popular sport among the people of Bern.

If you want to cross the Aare without getting your feet wet, if you want to watch the thousands of rubber boats in summer, if you would like to dive into the cold water of the Aare yourself... is in the right place at the Uttigen bridge with its Uttigen sill. And for those of you who can't get enough of the trains rushing by... et voilà. All train traffic to and from Thun thunders by here.

If you happen to be in the area, a short detour to the Uttiger threshold is worthwhile. In summer there is a lot of activity here, as many "rubber boats" leave the water in front of the threshold and get back in after the threshold. The place is not entirely safe for the inexperienced. Many a boat trip has come to an untimely end here. 2 footbridges lead over the bridge, which enable a "dry" crossing of the Aare. The wide view along the Aare is a feast for the eyes in spring and summer.
