The Laurance Lake High Loop Trail passes over the Clear Branch Dam and starts to work its way up the hillside above the reservoir. The trail is usually done as an out-and-back, and the switchbacks help make the downhill not seem as steep.

There is a large campground and trailhead near the eastern end of the lake. The trailhead provides access to multiple wilderness trails, which require wilderness permits to hike. This is a really popular spot for accessing the backcountry, so you'll probably see others while out on your hike.
