Mashapaug Lake, encompassing 297 acres, nestled in Bigelow Hollow State Park and Nipmuck State Forest in Union, northeastern Connecticut. The lake reaches a depth of 39.5 feet and is accessible for public fishing, boating, and swimming. During winter, ice fishing is a popular activity. The lake teems with various fish species, such as sunfish, yellow perch, chain pickerel, largemouth and smallmouth bass, brown and rainbow trout, and channel catfish.

Hikers at Mansfield Hollow Lake can explore trails around its 500-acre expanse, where anglers often catch prized trout and largemouth or smallmouth bass. The reservoir's crystal-clear waters also provide an excellent spot for kayaking, adding to the scenic outdoor experience.

The park offers over 18 miles of paved and unpaved trails. With its diverse trails, stunning scenery, and welcoming atmosphere, Mansfield Hollow State Park offers a fantastic escape.

Hurds Lake is a small but very beautiful 20-acre freshwater reservoir in Tolland, near the hamlets of North Somers and Baptist Village. It is dammed at the Camp Road end of the lake, where it also happens to be the best viewpoint to look out over the water. If you are passing on your bike, this makes for just the best break spot.

With a beach area, ponds, streams, and miles of hiking trails, Valley Falls Park is a super popular recreational spot nestled up to the Andrew Kenneth Webster Preserve. Numerous viewpoints and overlooks line the trails that climb up above the Bolton Lakes.

Gay City State Park is a 1500 acre state park. It has a wide range of activities for visitors to enjoy, including miles of trails, a beach, swimming and picnic areas. When out on the trail, you will find multiple wooden bridges, streams and an interesting stone formation.

Breakneck Pond large 92-acre, shallow lake in Union, Connecticut. The far northern tip, however, is in Sturbridge Massachusetts. The lake is undeveloped with only hiking and a few campsites around its shore and motorized vehicles and boats are prohibited, making for a very peaceful and scenic spot.
