Diverse trails along Taihu with beautiful villages to explore

Road going around the Dongshan Peninsula at Taihu Lake. I recommend going north to south, so you always have the lake on your right hand side - ensuring amazing views and avoiding any roads entering/exiting from/to the right. Unfortunately not a separate bike path, but a lane with ample space at the side of the road. Smooth asphalt and easy to ride.

Section of the X204 highway running alongside the lake. Absolutely beautiful. Great road, great views. It ends at the entry to the Taihu Bridge. /edit: it appears the road is closed to general through traffic. The gates at either end of the road can be passed by cyclists - and you can largely have the road to yourself/

Bike path along Taihu Lake through the wetlands, an important habitat for a variety of animal species. At the time of my visit (Jan 2023) the northern end was blocked, thus only this section accessible. The closure might be for some construction (?), as the map shows the path going even further.

Approx. 16km of road circling half way around the peninsula offering views onto Taihu Lake. It is NOT a separate bike path, but the road offers ample space.

Excellent road with great views onto Lake Taihu 太湖. All the tourist traffic is attracted to Nianhuawan Town, thus once you are passed it (if heading south, going counterclockwise around the peninsula) the road is largely free. Overall going around the peninsula is worthwhile, and I recommend going counterclockwise (for the better views onto the lake, and avoiding traffic coming in from the right).
