From 1924 onwards, Andreas Schotel came to Esbeek every year during the summer months. Initially he camped in a stable on the grounds of the "Oranjebond" and later in a garden shed of 2 x 2 meters on the same grounds. It was named "De Schuttel". Later, Schotel added another bedroom of 2 x 2 meters and a tiny studio. In 2000, "De Schuttel", on the initiative of the Friends of Andreas Schotel Esbeek Foundation and the Heemkunde Esbeek working group, was restored as a lasting show of appreciation for the work of this artist.
