It's been known for several years that a considerable amount of natural gas is present in the Wadden Sea near Moddergat. For years, there have been protests against planned extraction, fearing water and environmental pollution. Despite the fierce controversy, a natural gas extraction tower has already been built in the sea off Moddergat. I couldn't see the extraction tower, though.

This grandstand offers a unique view of the Wadden Sea World Heritage site. It's also a great spot for a picnic.
