The detour leads to absolutely stunning pools and is certainly not useless. Definitely worth doing. You only have to walk the last 150 meters downhill towards the river. It's a bit steep in places, but not dangerous. Otherwise, check out my previous tours.

It takes a good two hours to walk from Corte to the bridge. But cooling off in the Gumbe is wonderful

The spectacular Scala di Santa Regina is the eastern entrance to the Niolo. Reddish granite rocks show beautiful tafoni weathering here. A centuries-old mule track leads hikers through the gorge. No, you're not dreaming ! You are indeed in Corsica, although this narrow canyon may remind you of a Far West setting. This parade of La Scala di Santa Regina (Saint Régine's staircase) is a long gorge that stretches for more than 15 kilometers. It was dug by the Golo river which flows below. You evolve at the foot of high rock faces. That's wonderful !

My recommendation is to ride the Col de Vergio first and then take the descent through the gorge and just let yourself roll and be amazed. The heat can accumulate extremely in the gorge, while the ascent to the Col de Vergio has many trees that offer shade from time to time.
