The Elz Meadows are a nature reserve and protected landscape area of approximately 410 hectares along the Elz River near Kenzingen. The wet meadows and floodplains are an important habitat for numerous bird species and part of a larger bird sanctuary in the Upper Rhine Plain. Today, the Elz Meadows primarily serve nature conservation and offer opportunities for quiet recreation such as walking and cycling. 🌾🐦

The small town of Burkheim is well worth a visit. It's definitely worth leaving the tiresome gravel road for a while, although it does offer beautiful views of the Rhineland. The scenery is beautiful, but with a total distance of 90 km, it's best to avoid asphalt if possible.

Matthias described it well. The area around the pond is still a flood zone, i.e. when the Rhine is high or during regular floods, my "little pond" is not accessible or can only be accessed at your own risk. Unfortunately, this beautiful place is increasingly being littered by event idiots.
