Even though the funicular ride isn't free, it's definitely worth it. With the ticket you can also take an hour's bus ride. The views are fantastic. It's truly an experience!

A ride on the funicular is worthwhile. From the top you have a wonderful view of Lake Geneva and the port of Thonon-les-Bains. There are seats on the train, but also plenty of standing room. With the ticket you buy you can also use the buses in Thonon-les-Bains for a day.

At the end of the 19th century, the stone of the Bastille was inserted into the old wall of the Château de Thonon, at the request of the Inspector of Waters and Forests Jean Blanchard. We can still read the inscriptions "Palloy", "I Janvier" and "Thonon".

A stone with a long history... After the storming of the Bastille in 1789, Palloy, a builder, was tasked with demolishing the famous building. He proposed to the cities of France to buy the stones of the famous fortress as "anecdotes". In 1792, after the invasion of Savoy by French troops, he offered one of these stones to the town of Thonon. Later, after the return of the kings from Piedmont-Sardinia, the stone was found badly damaged in the garden of an Italian family. Finally, at the end of the 19th century, the Bastille stone was placed in the old wall of the Château de Thonon.
