This large artificial lake is a superb hiking spot. The tour of the lake is a route of approximately 16 kilometers, allowing you to discover the banks of the lake and the Helpe Majeure river, through beautiful meadows and the Abbé-Val-Joly national forest.

The Fourchinée pond, located between the communes of Momignies and Chimay, was created to supply a furnace that operated until the beginning of the 18th century. Occupying an area of approximately 12.9 hectares, it is located in an area rich in Eau Blanche springs. Today it is managed by Natagora as a nature reserve, home to remarkable biodiversity with many rare plant species and interesting birdlife, including the two-spotted cordula and other dragonflies.

Via a short but tiring slope you reach a viewpoint on Lake Virelles, where you also have the Aquascope. Opposite the bench on the blue walking trail you can continue a few meters in the direction of the lake. There you have the best view, which is also marked on the map as a viewpoint.

AquaScope Virelles is a nature reserve in Virelles, Belgium, known for its rich biodiversity and educational programs. The center is also an excellent place for birdwatching, both for groups and individuals, and offers unique experiences such as a night in a hut by the water or a silent excursion at dawn on the lake. AquaScope Virelles is a gateway to the new National Park Entre Sambre Et Meuse and aims to raise awareness of nature and environmental protection. The AquaScope has a small restaurant and is therefore the ideal place before or after a walk in the area.

The AquaScope Virelles is located directly at the lake and invites you into direct contact with the protected fauna and flora thanks to different viewpoints and boardwalks along the water.
