This reservoir is located in the beautiful Barranca valley

On November 26, 2025, the water covered many areas that are normally passable. You had to "climb" several rocks to get around the reservoir. This section was especially tricky when descending, and even more so if you were alone.

Paths and cattle trails very suitable for bike rides.

The Barranca Army Reservoir, built in the 1950s in Navacerrada (Madrid), is located in the Barranca Valley, within the Upper Manzanares Basin Regional Park. It originally supplied water to a sanatorium. Today, surrounded by a valuable ecosystem, it is a place to enjoy nature and views of the Sierra de Guadarrama.

Today, February 9, after the rains, the reservoir is higher, although you can still cross without climbing the rock, with a little care you won't get wet.

As of January 1, 2025, the water will no longer cover the path that runs under the granite stone and it can be passed through without any complications.

The passage through the Arroyos dam is closed, we will have to go all the way around the tail of the reservoir to another small dam in ruins.

This reservoir, located on the Navacerrada River in the municipality of Navacerrada, has an interesting history. It was built in the 1950s to supply water to the Air Force Anti-Tuberculosis Sanatorium in La Barranca. After its closure, it was abandoned and, over the years, it has become a rich ecosystem that is home to species at risk of extinction such as the otter, various birds, mammals, fish and amphibians. All this makes this area of high environmental and landscape value. If you ever have the opportunity to visit it, I recommend exploring its surroundings and enjoying the unparalleled views it offers.
