The Llobregat delta, with 98 km², is the second largest delta in Catalonia, only behind the Ebro delta. Throughout history this alluvial plain has had different river mouths, which over the years have created different coastal lagoons. These lagoons are of great importance for the nesting and migration of many birds. The growth of numerous human infrastructures have been surrounding and reducing the natural spaces of the delta, which have experienced a reduction in fauna and a degradation of their spaces.

The protected areas of the Llobregat delta are a network of protected areas belonging to the municipalities of El Prat de Llobregat, Viladecans, Gavà and Sant Boi de Llobregat. This area, located next to cultivated fields and surrounded by large communication infrastructures, enjoys great biological diversity. You can find lagoons, wetlands and coastal pine forests on dunes and virgin beaches. It is a very important space for fauna, especially for waterfowl, as it is located on the migratory route from northern Europe to Africa.

There is a nature reserve where the Llobregat River flows into the Mediterranean Sea. It is possible to explore the delta on very limited paths and only until 2 p.m. But it's worth it!
