Between the Alicante towns of Altea and Calpe, the N-332 road crosses a rugged and rugged landscape, as spectacular as few. The great natural barrier of the Serra de Bèrnia, which sinks its roots into the sea in the Morro de Toix, is broken by the Barranc Salat, which brings together the waters collected by the Bèrnia itself and the Sierra de Oltà, flowing into the sea in the nearby Playa del Mascarat (being the origin of it).

Barranc Salat, better known as Cañón del Mascarat, is a deep cleft of several tens of meters that separates the imposing Serra de Bérnia from its easternmost foothills, Morro de Toix.

The visit consists of a tour of a 1.5 km long circuit along the course of the Algar River (“cave” in Arabic) to see the landscape resulting from the karstic modeling of the limestone rock: the spectacular waterfalls; the many springs that gush out of the rock; the "tolls" (pools of water) where you can take refreshing baths in pure and crystalline waters, formerly considered a "source of health"; the old dam, the imposing canal and the hundred-year-old ditches still in use today.

Just a few kilometers from the town of Callosa d'en Sarrià is one of the most spectacular natural spaces in the Valencian Community. These are the famous Fonts de l'Algar that make up a series of pools, waterfalls, waterfalls and caves on the rocky bed of the Algar River ravine. It owes its name to the Arabic term "algar" which means cave that was used by humans and animals as a refuge. It is a place to visit all year round due to its beautiful surroundings, it is only worth clarifying that in summer it is usually too crowded and in many cases it is necessary to book an appointment in advance via the site's website. It is also necessary to pay an entrance fee, which as of July 2022 is about 5 euros for adults.

An amazing and impressive place at the same time. Quite a unique experience since the walls can reach up to 100 m high and you will be walking under the bridges that you will see from down there. The canyon narrows to such an extent that you can touch its walls by extending both arms. Remember to bring the right road to enjoy this great adventure, ideal for the whole family!
