Hasselholt ('het Goedje') has a memorial stone dating from 1548 and a beautiful Dutch Renaissance-style reticulated facade from 1651. Hasselholt is now inhabited by Baron Van Hövell of Westerflier. Architecturally, this castle is of great significance. It was originally built in the late Gothic style with occasional Renaissance elements. It was restored in 1970 to good condition. Ohé en Laak is located together with Stevensweert on the Island in the Maas, a (former) island between two river arms of the Maas, just west of the town of Echt at an altitude of approximately 26 meters. The old right arm is the Oude Maas. Wurfeld Castle was founded in the seventeenth century by two brothers who were canons at the Chapter of Our Lady in Maaseik. They built the residence - which later became the castle - near the St. Laurentius Chapel, which later became the St. Laurentius Church. In 1900, the residence was expanded into a small castle with a beautiful park. Today it serves as a hotel, restaurant and location for parties and meetings. I personally find some of the innovations less successful, but it is a very beautiful location with a beautiful park and some historic outbuildings behind the castle that are not really on a walking path. Before the parking lot next to the castle, there is a larger parking lot past the gate at the end of the driveway. You can stand there for the walk and you will find information boards and the official start of your walk. At the entrance to the castle you will find a sculpture by Jean Van Wierst called "Dark Heaven".
