Hello to all Komoot users, Le Grand Bois Commun (SC) is a cooperative in Braine-le-Comte. www.legrandboiscommun.be In 2019, just under 2,000 citizens purchased this 80 hectares of forest for protection. Recently, approximately 75% of its surface area was declared a Nature Reserve. Please be sure to stay on the paths and keep dogs on leashes. Beautiful park

The old quarries of the Dendre and Congo are a historic site of exploitation of blue stone, or "small granite", from the 18th century until 1951. Today submerged, they form a vast body of water 4.5 hectares. The site is managed by the Otaries diving club and is home to rich biodiversity with more than 120 species of birds observed. The quarries, integrated into a natural setting, are a popular place for scuba diving and hiking.

Le grand bois commune in Virginal Samme, in wet weather it is very muddy. There are 2 small ponds with, strangely, electricity poles in the largest pond. There are also agricultural tools rusting in a shed. There is also a spring along the hiking trail.

In the park you have the opportunity to have a drink or nibble at T-Rest. Park offers a nice variety between maintained trails and a rougher forest environment. The ponds top it off.

Here, the eastern Dender has just begun its journey and is therefore quite narrow. From Lens onwards, it noticeably widens; in Ath, it joins the western Dender, and in Dendermonde, it finally flows into the Scheldt as a substantial river.

Fishing pond and, downstream, one of the highest natural waterfalls in Belgium ... with a recently improved viewpoint but all the same not so spectacular because it is not possible to go below
