Prato Giardino is located in a privileged position, next to the civic walls in the northern part of the historic center of Viterbo. Its proximity to the heart of the city makes it easily reachable on foot for those exploring the historic center. The roots of Prato Giardino date back to the 14th century, when the area was connected to the Rocca built by Cardinal Egidio Albornoz. In the following centuries, the garden changed hands many times, belonging to noble families such as the Monaldeschi and the Gatti. Since 1847, the park has been managed by the Municipality of Viterbo, which in 1855 opened it to the public, transforming it into the green space we admire today. ...easy to ride...well...nature reserve - dirt road/dirt, potholed track, but rideable with a bike/luggage. The prohibition signs probably only apply to cars, etc. A police officer even opened the barrier for me at the end.

Very suggestive area and wonderful panorama with the Vico lake at the foot of Monte Fogliano as the protagonist. There is also a small wooden house used to admire the many varieties of birds that live in the reserve.
