a very beautiful place

Lake Corbara is an artificial lake that is part of the Tiber river park. The woods, vineyards and centuries-old olive trees surround the lake making it a picturesque place. It is a habitat for many species of aquatic birdlife, especially herons and cormorants.

The first and longest of the two bridges that are crossed along the Corbara lakeside, an artificial lake created by a dam on the Tiber.

The WWF Oasis of Alviano lake preserves aquatic environments that have disappeared for over a century. Precisely for this reason it has a special value and with its 900 hectares it protects a unique treasure chest of biodiversity from hunting and building speculation. The Oasis, which is part of the Tiber River Park, was born in 1990 and is today a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area.

The houses of its evocative historic center still speak of the events that saw it as protagonist and of the nobles who held them in lordship: the Fredi from the 12th century. and in 1500 the Acts, under which the castle prospered and embellished itself. Famous and sought after were the stonemasons of Civitella. In 1810 it took the name of Civitella dei Pazzi but the reason is not known. The parish church of Santa Maria was the oldest in the castle. After the construction of the Corbara dam and the lake of the same name, it took the name of Civitella del Lago in 1962.

The ruins almost disappear into the vegetation and are not very impressive. However, the view down into the valley is worthwhile.

It is certainly the most fascinating observation point of the Forello Gorges and Corbara Lake. It can be easily reached from the Titignano castle (3.5 km) either on foot or by mountain bike.
