In 2011, the pilgrimage site of Monte Sant'Angelo was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the seven components of the Lombard site in Italy, Places of Power (568 to 774 AD). A village perched on the promontory, Monte Sant'Angelo is a place out of time, with its white houses that seem to blend into each other. Worth a visit.

In May 2024 under restauration. Visited in the past, it#s worth a visit: great views to Foresta Umbra and the sea.

In some parts of the center it is preferable to park your bike and move around on foot.

The era of the foundation of this fortress is uncertain; it is thought to be even prior to the construction of Apricena, therefore the second half of the 9th century. Already flourishing in the 11th century under the lordship of the Norman Count Enrico, it then passed from Rainulfo Drengot, duke of Aversa, to Ruggero, lord of Rignano, following a long and bitter war.
