Beautiful but unfortunately not allowed to swim

A lean meadow is a lush, flowering meadow that is not used for agricultural purposes. In contrast to a rich meadow, it is low in nutrients. This means that mostly plants that are weak competitors thrive on it and would otherwise be threatened with extinction. It serves as a habitat for numerous insects and butterflies that are attracted by the scent of the many flowers and feed on their nectar. It also offers an attractive sight. While in earlier times such meadows were also found in many agricultural areas, this is no longer the case today.

Up until the 1970s there were up to 70 ponds in which trout and carp were bred where today valuable open and grassland structures as well as poor meadows thrive. However, when the Gernequelle, which fed the waters with fresh water, dried up, the ponds also disappeared. It is not known why the spring dried up.
