The brand new lake (2014) has a capacity of 23 million cubic metres and is expected to become one of the most important wetlands in the south-east Mediterranean; there is a nice cafe.

Beautiful lake that you can easily circumnavigate with a racing bike.

From Retymno with a simple rental bike on asphalt roads with little traffic but partly in poor condition through beautiful landscapes around the reservoir. Very friendly residents in the villages and restaurants, but unfortunately plastic bags and bottles everywhere on the roadside.

At the beginning a beautiful, dusty dirt road, then a wide, almost untravelled road that gently slopes down to the lake. At the end of the section a small taverna with a great view over the lake.
