It's easy to cycle along the dam, but it gets quite steep over the Fenetre de Durand. From south to north, the gradient is probably easier.

You can reach Switzerland's second-highest dam, the Barrage de Mauvoisin, by road bike. Or at least almost. The last few meters lead through a dark, wet tunnel, which isn't so easy to ride after the approximately 25-kilometer climb. From Sembrancher, at a good 700 meters above sea level, the climb is fairly flat for the first nine kilometers. Only from Champsec does the elevation profile gradually become steeper, but the gradient remains moderate until the very end.

The path through the many galleries connected to the many waterfalls makes the route very attractive!

The 8th highest dam in the world, retaining the waters of Lake Mauvoisin, in the Val de Bagnes. The main purpose of the dam is the production of hydroelectric power, creating clean energy for the surrounding region. The dam is also the site of the world record for highest recorded basketball shot, where Derek Herron hit the shot 180 yards above the basket.
