Wildenburg Castle Ruins, Wildhaus The Wildenburg was built around 1200 by the Barons von Sax. In 1313 it was sold to Count Friedrich IV of Toggenburg, and in 1439 it was inherited by the Lords of Raron. In 1468 it was sold to the monastery of St. Gallen. Shortly after 1660, the Wildenburg was struck by lightning and burned down. Since 1998, the Wildenburg has belonged to the political municipality of Wildhaus, now Wildhaus-Alt St. Johann. The south wall is being secured In January 2011, the renovation of the completely overgrown and decaying ruins of the Wildenburg began. Around 80 cubic meters, 60 tons of wood, were felled, flown away by helicopter and sold. The deficit was covered by the foundation of a holiday guest from Zurich. This is the Rosenberg ruin, not Rosenburg (as mentioned by Martina, which is located west of Herisau near Ramsen). The Rosenberg, Rosenburg and Urstein castles were once a trio. Four-sided foundation walls up to a height of 5 m have been preserved. Inside and outside with barbecue areas.

Very beautifully situated with a beautiful view, a small detour from the 86 Rheintaler Höhenweg, it's worth it.

Very beautiful viewpoint over the Appenzell region with the Aplstein massif, with the Clanx castle ruins, also Appenzell Castle, mentioned in a document around 1219, owned by the Barons von Sax from the St. Gallen abbot Ulrich.

The well-preserved part of the castle is secured and includes two benches and a barbecue area with wood and a viewing tower. You can continue along the rock through a door, but there is a risk of falling! There are two paths to the castle, along the mountain ridge or, more adventurously, through the ravine.

Nice little ruin with a rest area and fireplace. From there you have a beautiful view over the valley and it is a good location to enjoy the sunset.
