No outside water tap, shelter often closed

Start your hike as early as possible. It gets hot quickly, even in September. The views are unique. Definitely recommended.

On the summit with a great view there is an old chapel that is worth seeing and is open.

I would only take this 'direct route' if you have a lot of energy. There is no path to the top here. You just step up as straight as possible. I've done them part of this climb but it's really not pleasant.

Climbing up steeply make sure to look south before the switchbacks start to see this amazing view of the hilly Tenaro peninsula surrounded almost like an island by water from all sides.

Gigantic 360 degree all-round view! Looking south, you can see the descending Taygetos Mountains to the sea, which is divided into two parts by the Mani. Toward the north, the mountains of the Peloponnese can be seen as far as the horizon and in the west all over Messenia. On the small plateau of the summit, a small chapel without a roof is built out of rocks. In addition, there are still small shelters in which some have apparently already spent the night. The summit and the small chapel are dedicated to the Prophet Iliad. There is the following story: The prophet Ilias had just escaped death after a boat accident at sea. When, miraculously, he managed to save himself on land with the help of a helm, he decided to set up a church at the highest point, where no one knows a helm as such. He asked the first person he met, "What is it that I carry under my arm?" The answer was "a rudder". The Prophet made his way uphill. Also at the next meetings he got the right answer. So people here still had a connection to the sea and knew its temptations. So he decided to climb the highest point where he encountered a lonely goatherd. He greeted him kindly and asked, "What is this, what I carry under my arm"? This time, the answer was, "I do not know, I've never seen such a thing before." Then the prophet knew that here, at the highest point, he would build his house, where men did not connect the least with the sea. Since then, there is a shelter of the Prophet Ilias in Greece on the highest mountain peaks.
