Caution: some sections are dangerous and the trail crosses several scree slopes. Do not venture out alone and avoid in the rain. We are used to mountain hikes, even demanding ones, but we were surprised by the danger of this one (hike carried out at the end of September 2025 in rain and wind / we stopped at the pass).

The path is rocky, but well maintained and occasionally marked with E4 poles and trail signs. On the Afchenas saddle, 1,706 m, the E4 and the path to the summit separate. When you reach the stone pyramid, this is only the forepeak. The actual summit can be identified by a metal pole (remains of the summit cross). Snow fields are still to be expected here in May.

Nice destination for MTB or Gravel enthusiasts. The ascent is a partially steep, but technically not very demanding road, which is interrupted by two sheep fences, the gates of which can be opened and closed. Corresponding caution is required on the descent so that you don't forget it in the rush of speed 😉 The torment is rewarded with a fantastic view over the bay of Giorgioupoulis, the subsequent descent then finally compensates for all the effort. The southern connection to Lake Kournas seems tempting, but is definitely NOT recommended by bike, as it is simply not ridable and difficult to get off even without a bike on your back.

The tour from Amaoudari to Imbros is only offered by Frosch Sportreisen. It was passed on to a guide by an elderly Cretan couple. The tour leads over a long climb over the plateau. The paths are steep and rocky. You will be rewarded with magnificent views.

Very nice little hike at Elafonissi Beach! If you keep your eyes open you will find a small cave. At this point you will find a reference to the fact that the Ottomans executed hundreds of women and children here at the time. Cruel things on a dream beach!
