カヴァナータ渓谷自然保護区は、グラードラグーンの東部に位置する、並外れた自然価値を持つ保護地域です。かつては漁業用の谷として利用されていましたが、現在では生物多様性の保全に捧げられた国際的に重要な湿地（ラムサール条約登録地）となっています。保護区の中心部は、アシ原と湿潤な森林に囲まれた広大な汽水ラグーンで、有名なフラミンゴをはじめ、数千羽の渡り鳥や多くの種類のカモにとっての避難場所および休憩場所となっています。平坦な小道やサイクリングロードでアクセス可能で、保護区にはバードウォッチングのためのいくつかの観察小屋があり、海からわずか数キロ離れた場所で、動物の鳴き声だけが聞こえる静寂に浸ることができます。
