Today, the tunnels are a popular tourist destination for anyone spending time on Murter. The tunnels are completely dark, and anyone wishing to enter them must bring a flashlight or other good light source. About 20% of the tunnels are inaccessible, as the deepest sections were only accessible by ladders and have unfortunately collapsed.

During World War II, the tunnels were used as a military hideout. The bunker housed three cannons designed to defend Murter (and the entire Croatian coast) from Italian warships. This nearly led to a war between Croatia and Italy. What actually happened that day is unknown.

The bunker complex on Murter, located on Raduč Hill, provides an impressive glimpse into history. The coastal defense installations were connected by tunnels.

The Čikola canyon is characterized by a pronounced roughness, emphasized by the imposing forms of juniper, the impassability of the canyon and the frequent drying up of the riverbed. Such inaccessibility was desirable in the past, so this area contains two caves with Paleolithic sites and the Ključica fortress

It's strenuous, but the view of the water cascades makes it worth it. And the number of visitors is limited.
