Old Bar is a small town in Montenegro

The old town of Bar is located on the slopes of the Rumija Mountains and is a fascinating place

Entrance fee: €5, as of March 2025 You should definitely visit Stari Bar and plan on spending about two hours there. It's so beautiful and very interesting. A restored building suddenly stands among the ruins, and old relics are also beautifully presented. A must-see for any vacation to Montenegro. I was there in the rain, so you have to be careful of the slippery stones. I think you should pack water and sunscreen in the summer.

The really beautiful little pedestrian zone leads up to the ruined city. Here you will find small shops and restaurants. Highly recommended: pomegranate juice and jam.

Easy to reach in 30 minutes with sturdy shoes and enough water. From the ruins (because there are two) you have a beautiful view. Both ruins are freely accessible.

The mosque was built in the middle of the 18th century, it is named after Ahmed-beg Škanjević, a rich nobleman from Bar who left one of the largest endowments. Next to it, a tekija was built - a place where dervishes gather and perform zikr. The stone minaret, an architectural work of inestimable value and unique proportions, beauty and harmony, was built by Hasećija Ali-ag. 1819. The mosque, tekija, as well as its complex was completely restored and reconstructed in 2009. Today, next to the mosque, there is also a tekija of the Nakšibendi Sufi order.
