From the 2,527-meter-high Varful Vistea Mare, Varful Moldoveanu can be reached in about 30 minutes. Romania's third-highest mountain isn't nearly as crowded, as everyone keeps moving on. The view, however, is equally impressive.

Good walk, bring with you a damigeană.

Steep ascent with climbing passages on scree, so good hiking equipment with hiking poles, good shoes, and a helmet if necessary is recommended. Allow enough time. Very worthwhile ascent, as the view from the summit is fantastic.

If you go from Belea to Moldoveanu, you must climb the peak as well. It is very beautiful there and from there you can reach Moldoveanu in about 20 minutes. The route can be a bit strenuous.

The Vârful La Om (or Piscul Baciului, also known as Shepherd's Peak) is, at 2238 m, the highest peak in the Piatra Craiului Mountains in the Romanian Southern Carpathians. It is located in the Brașov region, about 9 km southwest of the small town of Zărneşti. From the summit there is a far-reaching view of the Fagaras Mountains to the west and the Bucegi Mountains to the southeast. The easiest ascent is from the southeast via the Refugiul Grind refuge. The ascent from the northwest via the Refugiul Șpirla refuge is very steep and partially secured with steel cables. A ridge path leads over the crest of the Piatra Craiului Mountains and crosses the summit of La Om.
