Short track to the entrance of the coal mine

We didn't cross the cave, but we still liked it very much. An absolutely worth seeing place! The cave is a central part of the 16.22 hectare Cave Stream Scenic Reserve. It can be reached from the adjacent State Highway 73. The “Cave Stream” brook breaks through a hill here. The cave is accessible in summer with warm water and low water levels, but dangerous in spring and heavy rainfall.

Even if the cave is not accessible, an interesting stop at the Arturs Pass. The view of the cave entrance and exit and the surrounding panorama are worth seeing.

Nice wide sandy beach with quite some surfing going on in public transport distance from ChCh.

Here you can choose to climb the ladder or the waterfall. The waterfall is much funnier. The passage takes about 20 to 30 minutes. There are also smaller sinuses that you can climb through.

The entrance can be reached in 5 minutes from the parking lot. When you're used to the cold, bathing shorts and a headlamp are enough, otherwise a wetsuit. The water goes in places to the belly button. In high currents, it is not recommended to enter the cave.

A short short path leads to the closed tunnels. At the end of the track you can still see a small waterfall, which is a bit hidden.
